Head Coach Tom Palombo
Coach Palombo has been a head collegiate basketball coach for 29 years, compiling a 567-249 mark that includes 11 trips to the NCAA Tournament and back to back Final Four appearances in 2009 and 2010. For his efforts, Palombo has been named National Coach of the Year twice as well as conference coach of the year an ODAC record four times in basketball. The Quakers have also produced two National Players of the Year during that span. Prior to his arrival at Guilford, Palombo served as the head men’s coach at Defiance College in Ohio for six years. Prior to becoming the men’s coach at Defiance College, Palombo coached the women’s team to a 78-7 mark, making three consecutive NCAA appearances and two straight Elite Eight finishes. His teams led the nation in scoring and attendance twice and Palombo was named the National Coach of the Year in 1996. Coach Palombo’s teams have been noted for their offensive scoring ability and their defensive intensity and rebounding.
Assistant Coach Ronnie Thomas
Coach Thomas is in his third year as Guilford’s men’s basketball assistant coach. Coach Thomas was recently recognized as one of the top assistant coaches in the country by the NABC. Thomas played collegiately at Guilford's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Bridgewater College where he was a three-year captain for the Eagles. An Academic All-ODAC honoree, he holds the school’s career steals record with 153 and graduated as one of the school's career assists leaders. He earned a liberal studies degree with an emphasis on elementary education in 2014.
After graduation, Thomas played in Ireland's Wingfoot Premier League for the Ulster Elks. While playing abroad, Thomas started postgraduate studies in sports management from the University of Ulster. Thomas also coached with the Basketball Northern Ireland Academy and Ireland's under-16 Girls' National Team.
